Would someone please give me your thoughts about gambling. For instance a casino (I was in Vegas 7 times in the past). It was fun but I had a feeling inside that it must be wrong. I was not practicing my faith in those years.

Secondly, buying lottery tickets.

I don't believe the act in and of itself to be a problem, but rather, the risk that such can turn into an obsession.

Same thing with drinking.  I have no problem with having a beer now and then.  But I know others can become obsessed (it's called alcoholism).

I also think intent has a lot to do with it.  Is a single mother of three betting the last of the food dollars for "God to make her rich"?  If there's any intent in one's heart to cajole or beg (or even just wish) for God to let one win, then I think there's a problem.  It's a sin against time.

Now as I've said, in order to do anything (like gambling) one needs a budget.  So where does the money come from?  Food?  Rent?  Tithe?  Clothing?  Entertainment?  If you'd rather buy a lottery ticket than rent a movie or go skiing, I don't see God having a problem with that.  IF what one gets from the experience is indeed entertainment.

But my brother-in-law has wasted his entire lifetime trying to find the "secret equation" to win at the horses so he can become rich Rich RICH !!!

And that's just a shame.

I agree with Yehushuan I think it depends on the person. I personally have to watch gambling and alcohol. I only allow myself a couple cheap scratch off tickets a month and try not to have more than one drink a month, if that. But that is because I come from a family with addictive personalities in it, so I know I should be careful doing any activity that can become addictive, such as gambling.

My thoughts on gambling is while scripture does not say anything against it scripture does say much about who greed is sin and this is the major reason people choose to gamble.

That is true, if I'm being honest sometimes I do gamble for the greed factor.
